Bible is America's favorite book: poll
Tue Apr 8, 3:07 PM ET NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) – "When it comes to literary pursuits in the United States most people agree on at least one thing -- the most popular book is the Bible, according to a new survey..." "...they may not agree on candidates, but one thing that brings together partisans is their favorite book. For Republicans, Democrats and Independents, the top two books are the same -- the Bible followed by "Gone With the Wind." I read this article this morning with mixed feelings. Americans say that the Bible is their favorite book, but why isn't it affecting their lives and our culture. The Bible is a powerful book that has stood the test of time and intense scrutiny. When I see this poll, I immediately think: Wow, now if the Bible would only impact people's lives' morally, intellectually, and spiritually. This is an opportunity for us to pray for America and the lightheartedness that is associated with Biblical Truth and a Biblical Worldview. Pray the God would change people's lives supernaturally through the reading of his word and the Gospel of the Cross of Christ.
Just a theory: I guess people just aren't reading anything at all and when polled the Bible was the fist book to come to mind. Your thoughts welcome!

I'm thankful it wasn't Eckhart's "A New Earth." I think you're right though, people mention the first book they can think of and/or want to feel/sound good by mentioning the Book. If in fact it was the "most popular" book, that would also mean it is the most read, and with that being true, you're on the mark--more lives would be different and our (America) focus would most certainly be shifted.
